AI Instructions

Customize how AI behaves across different features in VoiceHire.

Overview

AI Instructions let you guide how VoiceHire's AI evaluates candidates and conducts interviews across all your jobs. Your instructions help the AI better understand your company's unique preferences and culture.

These are company-wide settings — they apply to all jobs automatically.

info

Two levels of AI Instructions exist in VoiceHire:

  • Company-wide (this page — accessible at /manage/ai-instructions) — defaults that apply across every job.
  • Per-job (Job > AI Configuration > Instructions tab) — overrides for a specific job. Use these to define automated decision logic like "advance candidates above 80% match" or "reject below 40% and request approval otherwise."

See AI Configuration for per-job instructions.

Access

Navigate to /manage/ai-instructions directly.

Required role: Super Admin or Admin.

Instruction Categories

CategoryPurposeAffects

Interview AgentCustomize the voice interview experienceHow AI conducts interviews with candidates

Each category is independent — you can configure one without the other.

Configuring Instructions

Each category displays as a card with a markdown editor:

  1. Write your instructions in the markdown editor
  2. Click Save Instructions

The Save Instructions and Reset to Default buttons are only active when the editor contains content. A green Configured badge appears on categories that have saved instructions.

Match Scoring

Guide AI evaluation of candidate-job fit.

Example:

We strongly prefer candidates with startup experience over corporate backgrounds.
Prioritize culture fit and growth mindset over formal education credentials.
SaaS experience should be weighted heavily for engineering roles.

Interview Agent

Customize the AI interviewer's behavior and tone.

Example:

Use a warm, conversational tone. We are a people-first company.
Ask follow-up questions about team collaboration experiences.
Keep the interview concise — aim for 15-20 minutes maximum.

Resetting Instructions

Click Reset to Default on a category card to remove custom instructions. The AI will revert to its default behavior for that category. A confirmation dialog appears before deletion.

Tips

  • Start simple — add a few key preferences, then refine based on results
  • Review AI evaluations periodically to see if instructions are producing the desired outcomes
  • Keep instructions specific and actionable rather than vague
